Ventajas de la tracción trasera con motor trasero:
1. El tren de transmisión corto, ya que el motor, la transmisión y el mando final se pueden instalar en una sola unidad.
2. Gran parte del peso en la parte trasera del vehículo mejora la tracción al subir colinas y acelerar.
3. La disposición del eje de transmisión es más sencilla en comparación con una tracción delantera.
4. Con esta disposición, es posible frenar eficazmente las ruedas traseras.
5. Debido a la ausencia del eje de la hélice, se reduce el área del piso bloqueado.
6. Los pasajeros disipan los gases de escape, los humos, el calor del motor y el ruido.
7. La disposición de accionamiento da como resultado una estructura compacta y un carro corto.
8. La parte delantera del vehículo puede diseñarse para ofrecer buena visibilidad y un flujo de aire suave.

Desventajas motor trasero tracción trasera:
1. La concentración de peso hacia la parte trasera hace que el vehículo se vea más afectado por el viento cruzado a altas velocidades. Esto hace que el vehículo gire muy bruscamente en la curva.
2. Es difícil acomodar la refrigeración líquida del motor.
3.Es difícil colocar el depósito de combustible en una zona segura del vehículo.

8. Se requieren varillajes largos para los controles del motor, el embrague y la transmisión.
